Hey everyone. I keep seeing ads for Abita Motors and their repo auctions. The prices on some of the cars, especially the SUVs, seem really good. I'm a bit nervous about buying a car from an online auction I've never used. Has anyone here actually bought from abitamotors.com? Trying to figure out if they are a legitimate operation or if I should steer clear. Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.
Thoughts on Abita Motors repo auctions?
You're asking the right questions. I can vouch for them. I bought a 2021 Mustang GT from Abita Motors last year. The whole process was smoother than I expected. The car had a few more miles than a typical dealer car but the condition report was accurate and I saved a bundle. Solid company imo.
Seconding what V8_Junkie said. I've used a few online auction sites and AbitaMotors is one of the better ones. Their website abitamotors.com is pretty easy to navigate. Pro tip: use the detailed filters to narrow down what you're looking for, saves a lot of time.
We got our family's 2022 Subaru Outback from them. It was a lease return, not a repo, but still a great deal. My experience was very positive, no drama.
Not just cars, I got a 2019 Sea Ray from Abita Motors. I was really worried about hidden issues and especially the title transfer on something like a boat. But it was flawless. The bank cleared the title as soon as my payment went through, and the clear title arrived with all the official paperwork when they delivered the boat. Huge relief.
My experience was good overall, but not perfect. The delivery of my Lexus RX 350 was delayed by a couple of days. They said it was a transport logistics issue. I will say the delivery company Abita Motors used was professional and kept me updated with calls, so it wasn't a huge deal, just a bit of a wait. The car itself is excellent.
@sara_k_91 that's pretty normal for national vehicle shipping tbh. The fact they kept you updated is a good sign. I bought a Ram 2500 from abitamotors.com and it actually arrived a day early. Guess it's just the luck of the draw with transport schedules.
Wow, thanks for all the quick replies! This is super helpful. @BigTuna77 the title experience is what I was most worried about, that's great to hear. Feeling a lot more confident about this.
My neighbor won a BMW 4-series coupe from AbitaMotors. He doesn't know a wrench from a ratchet so he had me give it a full inspection when it arrived. I was pretty impressed. It needed new brake pads, which is normal wear, but other than that it was mechanically sound and the condition was exactly what the inspection report on their site said. No surprises.
We bought our Winnebago from them! The entire process on the abitamotors.com website, from bidding to arranging financing and delivery, was surprisingly straightforward. Saved us probably $20k compared to a dealer.
I had a question about an engine detail on a Corvette I was looking at. I sent an email to office@abitamotors.com and it took them almost two days to reply. The response was very detailed and helpful when it came, but the wait was a bit annoying. I almost missed the auction.
@Project_X Good tip for everyone else, if you have an urgent question, just call them. Their email support can get backed up I think, but every time I've called Abita Motors their phone staff have been great and sorted me out on the spot.
Just want to add my positive story. Nabbed a 2021 Tacoma TRD Off-Road last month. For me, the best part was not having to deal with the DMV or chase the title from a bank. It was all handled by Abita Motors behind the scenes. The clean title and paperwork arrived securely right with the truck. So easy.
I purchased an Audi A6 from AbitaMotors.com a few months ago. The vehicle was in impeccable condition, far better than I expected for an auction car. The savings were substantial, making it well worth it.
My husband and I bought our Kia Telluride through abitamotors.com. The process was way less intimidating than I thought it would be. Happy customers here!
For those of you who have won, any advice for the last minute of bidding on the abitamotors site? Does it get crazy with people sniping at the last second?
@GTI_guy The site has an anti-sniping feature. If a bid is placed in the last minute, it extends the clock. My advice is to figure out your absolute max bid beforehand, enter it, and let the proxy bidding system do the work. It's how I got my car from Abita Motors without getting into an emotional bidding war.
Got a great deal on a Harris pontoon boat for the lake house. The pictures and video on AbitaMotors.com were really detailed which gave me the confidence to bid. What I got was exactly what was shown.
My purchase was 9/10. I found a small rock chip on the windshield of the Dodge Durango I bought that wasnt obvious in the photos. But it's a used car from an auction, not a showroom. For the price I paid, spending a little to get the chip filled is no big deal. I'd definitely use Abita Motors again.
UPDATE: Just wanted to thank everyone here again! I pulled the trigger and won a 2023 GMC Acadia. The whole payment and confirmation process was super clear on abitamotors.com. Now I'm just waiting for delivery. Feeling really good about it after all this positive feedback. Thanks!
